If Carrie Underwood‘s making it look easy taking two children under the age of five on the road, she quickly confesses it’s all an illusion.

“Oh, lawdee!” she laughs. “I must be a duck, like, calm on the surface and paddling like crazy underneath.”

Part of the difficulty is that Jacob — who was born in January — is hitting the road so much earlier than Isaiah, who’s four now.

“It’s definitely a different ballgame because he’s so much younger than Isaiah was when I took him on the road,” Carrie explains. “There’s a huge difference between four months and eleven months. You know, I wasn’t up feeding Isaiah in the middle of the night.”

“And it’s like he knows when I have a really early morning or a ton of stuff to do the next day,” Carrie continues. “Because that’s the night that he’s gonna be up four or five times, like last night.”

The “Love Wins” hitmaker is thankful both to be able to bring her boys along, and to have plenty of help.

“It’s great that I have the kind of job where I can bring my kids with me,” Carrie points out. “They’re around and when I have to step away and go, ‘Mommy has to go work,’ you know there’s a great support unit around me that, they got it. And then when I’m done, I come back.”

No matter what she has going on, Isaiah and Jacob are Carrie’s priority.

“We do our best to make things as normal as possible, and try to stick to some sort of a schedule,” she says. “This our life and I’m lucky that they get to be around.”

This week, the Cry Pretty Tour continues with stops in St. Louis; Milwaukee; Minneapolis; and Lincoln, Nebraska.
