93.1 KMKT, 97.5 KLAK, and Mad Rock 102.5 break records raising over $130,000 in food donations at the 21st Annual Bob Skaggs Memorial Food Drive
Sherman, TX – 27 December 2017
Alpha Media North Dallas once again broke records and captured the attention of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma, with the 21st Annual Bob Skaggs Memorial Food Drive. The three-day event, hosted by hometown radio stations, Katy Country, KLAK, and Mad Rock, sponsored by Tyson Foods, Lankford Roofing, and Serenity Best Home Health was held in Sherman, Texas. The combined cash and food donations amounted to well over $130,000, establishing it as the most successful food drive the three radio stations have experienced, to date.
Financial donations alone from listeners around the community were staggering, at well over $10,600 and surpassed any previous year, making it the largest food drive benefitting the Salvation Army in the State of Texas. As Major Tex Ellis of the Salvation Army averred it was a record breaking year with “…185,657 donated food items…more than fifty-three pallets of food”.
Held annually the three days leading up to Thanksgiving, the food drive was well attended by beloved on-air personalities, supporting members of the community, and visits from law enforcement, including the famous police dog, McGruff himself.
David Smith, General Manager of the Alpha Media North Dallas market’s McKinney and Sherman offices stated, “…this kind of outpouring is just the sort of generosity we’ve come to expect in this unique community, but the consistent increase in annual donations is nothing short of amazing. We are always left speechless, humbled and honored to be a part of this iconic event.”
