32 Years Ago Today: Willie, Waylon, Johnny and Kris Brought Us The Highwaymen

The Highwayman album by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson was released  in 1985. The country “supergroup” comprised of the biggest names in Outlaw Country did not have an official name when the album was released, therefore it was billed as an album by “Nelson, Jennings, Cash, Kristofferson”. The first single, the title cut, from the first of 3 total full length recordings by the group, was written by Jimmy Webb, who also wrote Glen Campbell’s signature hit “Wichita Lineman”.
