Family Health Center of Southern Oklahoma Hosts Summer Blood Drive – August 13
July 30, 2014 ─ There’s no substitute for blood needed by patients in local hospitals served by Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI). A blood drive in Tishomingo Wednesday, Aug. 13, provides the opportunity for anyone who is healthy and at least 16 years old* to make a life-saving difference. The blood drive will occur at Family Health Center of Southern Oklahoma, 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Two tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo and a “Feel Cool” T-shirtwill be presented to each donor. Health screenings and Donor Rewards points, redeemable in OBI’s online store, are also provided to donors.
Through a special initiative to support the Global Blood Fund (GBF), any donor can forgo the T-shirt offered in appreciation for giving. In turn, funds so designated will then be contributed to GBF for supplies and equipment for blood centers in the world’s poorest countries.
“Everyone knows someone who’s needed blood. It impacts all ages of people and often arises unexpectedly as a result of accident or illness,” said John Armitage, M.D., president and CEO. “Whether we know them or not, there are people now who are counting on us to give.”
Patients who receive blood exclusively from OBI donors include those in Mercy Hospital Tishomingo. Oklahoma Blood Institute provides every drop of blood needed to some 150 medical facilities statewide.
Appointments are not necessary, but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting www.obi.org.
