Ardmore Helps Boost Summer Blood Supply – August 10-15

July 29, 2014 ─ Blood donors this summer will not only save lives when they donate with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI), they’ll also get two tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo and “Feel Cool” T-shirts.

Anyone who is healthy and 16 years or older* is encouraged to donate at these locations:

·         Trinity Baptist Church; Sunday, August 10, 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

·         Mercy Hospital Ardmore; Tuesday, August 12, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

·         Elmbrook Home; Friday, August 15, 1 to 4 p.m.

“For patients in need of blood, there’s no summer vacation,” said John Armitage, M.D., president and chief executive. “That’s why it’s crucial that blood donors take just an hour to donate blood. The lives of our friends, co-workers and neighbors may depend on it.”

Patients who receive blood exclusively from OBI donors include those in Mercy Hospital Ardmore and Ardmore Regional Surgery Center. In fact, Oklahoma Blood Institute provides every drop of blood needed to some 150 medical facilities statewide.

All blood types are needed, but those with O-negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate. Although it is present in only nine percent of the U.S. population, it can be used by anyone in an emergency situation, according to the American Association of Blood Banks. This creates an immense and constant need for blood donors with O-negative blood.

Appointments are not required to donate at this blood drive, but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting www.obi.org.
