McKinney Government and Nonprofits Collaborate to Host 2nd Annual Youth Summit
McKinney, TX –With the success of last year’s Youth Summit, which hosted 150 people actively engaged in assisting youth from at-risk environments, Volunteer McKinney has announced the date for the 2nd Annual McKinney Youth Summit. It will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at McKinney High School. Sponsors of this event are the City of McKinney, McKinney ISD, McKinney Community Development Corporation, Volunteer McKinney, the Wal-Mart Foundation and Metro Linen.
The collaborative planning team for this event is made up of representatives from the following:

This year's conference will feature Dr. Timothy M. Bray, (Director of the Institute for Urban Policy Research and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas) as the Keynote Speaker. Breakout session topics were selected to help those working directly with today's youth. The breakout topics are:
LA VISIÓN: FISD Latino organization
How Frisco ISD is working to empower parents, students, and community to impact student’s academic success and become lifelong learners. Presented by: Elma Montenegro, Frisco ISD
College and Career Resources Panel
A discussion on resources available to youth searching for post-high school education or career skills. Presented by: Laura Bruton of Job Corps, Dr. Alicia Huppe of Collin College and Ashley Sine of the McKinney Education Foundation
Mental Health and Substance Abuse in Families and Youth
Recognizing mental health and substance abuse issues in youth and their families and learn about resources. Presented by: Dr. Dean Aslinia, New Horizons Center for Healing and the Harold Murphy Counseling Center, Texas A&M University at Commerce
Human Trafficking and Sex Slavery: How to see it in their eyes
How human trafficking and sex slavery affect our community's youth. Learn what signs to look for,how to help and how to educate on the importance of this issue. Presented by: Stephanie Ann Henry, Activism for Empowerment & Author of “If Only I Could Sleep: A Survivor's Memoir”
