Volunteer McKinney's Make A Difference Day Projects

Oct 26, 2013 9:00am - 2:00pm
Volunteer McKinney and 15 partner agencies are gearing up for the biggest day of volunteering in the history of the event. Over 400 volunteers have signed up via our website to help out on Saturday and there are only a few slots still available. All volunteers must pre-register. No walk-ups will be accepted. Project managers from the Dallas Chapter of the Project Management Institute are assisting some agencies in coordinating their projects. All registered volunteers receive an event t-shirt and a goodie bag stuffed by the residents of the McKinney Housing Authority and the employees of Stat Labs in McKinney.
Event sponsors this year are the City of McKinney, McKinney Community Development Corporation, Bank of Texas, Primrose School of Eldorado, Primrose School of Stone Brooke and Independent Bank . Our In-kind sponsors are Market Street, Step Up Realty, Fred Shots Photography and Baylor McKinney.
This year, local restaurants are hosting “After-Parties” for all participating volunteers. The host restaurants are Brothers Pizza on Eldorado, Raising Canes on University and Italian Garden on Custer.

Saturday, October 26, 2013 Project List

CASA of Collin County, Inc-101 E. Davis, 9am to 2pm
Volunteers will give the CASA property a fall ‘make over’, including landscaping and clean up, interior organization and cleaning, and oiling the wood paneling around the office to help maintain a clean and professional feel for our clients.

City of McKinney-Reuben Johnson Elementary, 3400 Ash Lane, 9am to Noon
Project #1-The Storm Water Inlet Marking (SWIM) project is an environmental public education program sponsored by the City of McKinney. The project’s goal is to raise awareness of storm water issues and encourage residents to protect water resources. Every storm water inlet in McKinney must be marked to deter residents from dumping trash and chemicals into the waterways. Volunteer teams will install aluminum storm markers at designated storm inlets and distribute door hangers with information about the inlet marking with steps to keep inlets clean.
Project #2-We need your help to Keep Our Community Clean! Did you know that: • Over 230 million tons of garbage are produced annually in the United States—that equals 4.5 pounds per person per day.• Clean, trash-free neighborhoods are safer for children to play in.• Clean communities promote a positive community identity and can result in increased economic development. The City of McKinney Storm water Management Program invites you to help to create cleaner, safer, healthier, and more economically viable places to live, work, and play. The Keep Our Community Cleanup event provides an opportunity for McKinney residents to clean up the city by collecting litter, along our roadsides, neighborhoods, parks and waterways.
